Once
a popular honeymoon destination, Niagara
Falls is a seriously large waterfall.
Defiantly worth seeing at least once,
it is located on the border between The
United States of America and Canada. Going
there can be confusing because both of
the cities on both sides of the border
are named “Niagara Falls”,
so it is always a good idea to ask “which
one”. The Falls themselves are actually
a series of waterfalls and not one continuous
waterfall, although at times it is very
hard to tell.
Niagara Falls drops about 170 feet straight
down, although the American side of the
Falls has a clear drop of only 70 feet.
The larger “Canadian Falls”
are about 2,600 feet wide, while the “American
Falls” are 1,060 feet wide. The
volume of water approaching Niagara Falls
during peak flow season is 202,000 cubic
feet per second.

One
of the stranger events in the history
of Niagara Falls is that many people have
tried to go over the falls in a barrel.
These weren’t always wooden barrels,
but have taken on many shapes and sizes
and been made out of many materials. What
might be surprising is that some of the
people actually live to tell the tale.
Most don’t though, and are either
recovered later or (most likely) never
seen again.
