Located
in the arid state of Arizona, Havasu Falls
is a canyon complex that isn’t too
far from the Grand Canyon. Every desert
has to have its oasis, and Havasu Falls
is one place where people in Arizona could
find water. Twisting rivers have carved
out a maze of rock channels that allow
plants and animals to get shelter from
the harsh sun. Trees grow in forgotten
nooks, and to be honest it feels like
your in some kind of movie where explorers
disappear forever. Once and a while you
might find a pond or small lake at the
bottom of a beautiful waterfall, and they
are a sight for sore, parched eyes.
The name Havasu comes from the word "Havasupai",
which means “people of the blue-green
water”. Yucca, prickly pear and
cat claw acacia are about the only plants
that can grow in the desert, and they
are all over the place when you climb
down the canyon. Havasu Falls is a tributary
of the Colorado River, which has been
slowly drying up over the last decade
of the 20th century.
