Not
to be confused with Washington D.C., Washington
State is one the west side of America,
not the east. Washington State is located
on the upper west corner of the country,
on the border with Canada. It lies directly
under the Province of British Columbia.
The most well known city in Washington
State is Seattle, which is a very soggy
city indeed. Because of its location on
the west coast, and because the state
has a large mountain range (the Cascade
Range) running though it, Washington State
has a lot of unique weather patterns.
On one side of the mountains it can get
rather chilly, while on the coastal side
it is very wet and mild. Much of Washington
State is famous for its breathtaking beauty,
and people who like to travel the west
coast go up and down Highway 101, which
runs from Canada to Mexico.

One
of the interesting geographic features
of Washington State is Puget Sound. Puget
Sound is a “long finger of the Pacific
Ocean”, which is basically like
a huge inland bay. Puget Sound is excellent
for storing ships, and has helped Washington
State grow and prosper. Many of the cities
in Washington State are on Puget Sound,
and it is a major port for ships sailing
what is called the Pacific Rim. Washington
is also known for being home to four of
the longest floating bridges in the world.
These bridges are not anchored on the
sea floor, but instead ride on large pontoons.
