This
wedge shaped state is on the east coast
of the United States of America. It is
known as the “Birthplace of Presidents”
became more presidents have been born
in Virginia then in any other state. Virginia
was given its nickname "The Old Dominion"
by King Charles II of England at the time
of the Restoration for remaining loyal
to the crown during the English Civil
War. During the Civil War Virginia seceded
from the union and became part of the
Confederacy. Virginia would pay in blood
for its decision, but it also pay in land
as a major part of Virginia became West
Virginia after the war. This was because
the two parts of Virginia were so divided
over the issue of slavery that they actually
became two states.
Today Virginia and its capital of Richmond
have grown to be a bustling urban center.
Virginia is known to be hit by the odd
storm, which can send residents in the
south scurrying for cover. There are plenty
of things to do in Virginia, including
the usual summer sports and the usual
winter sports, as Virginia enjoys many
seasons. There are also many Civil War
battle sites to visit, as well as many
Civil War trails.
