If
you want to find Rhode Island on a map
of North America you had better have a
good map. Rhode Island is the smallest
state in the United States of America,
which is saying a lot considering it is
smaller then Hawaii. Rhode Island is one
of the states that makes up the areas
known as New England and was one of the
original thirteen colonies that revolted
against British rule. At a mere 4000 square
kilometres it is smaller than many counties
in Texas and with a population of about
one million it is less populated than
any major American cities.
Rhode Island has a moist continental climate,
with four distinct seasons. Its weather
is tempered by sea winds. Rhode Island
has been known to get hit by the occasional
blizzard or sea storm, but those are not
the norm. Service producing industries,
primarily tourism, health services and
financial services, are Rhode Island's
chief source of income and employ the
greatest number of people. Rhode Island
was also the first place in North America
to make slavery illegal.
