The
State of Michigan is named after Lake
Michigan, the lake that interrupts the
two parts of the state’s great landmass.
The word “Michigan” is Chippewa
for “Great Water”, and the
lake is certainly big enough to hold that
name. The State of Michigan has relied
on the lake for things like transportation
since its founding, and people have been
using the lake for a lot longer than that.
When people think of Michigan they often
think of Detroit. Detroit is one of the
largest cities in America and is the center
of the car manufacture industry. While
it is true that “Motor City”
is quite a dirty, messy, smelly, violent,
corrupt place Michigan isn’t as
bad. Michigan has lots of unsoiled rural
and natural areas that are excellent to
visit on a vacation. Michigan is also
and important bridge to Canada. The city
of Windsor, located at the base of Ontario
where the state meets the province, exists
almost exclusively to help America and
Canada interface through Michigan.
