Sitting
right beside Texas, Louisiana has a large
French-American population and recognises
French as one of its official languages.
Louisiana is considered a very exotic
local as far as the United States of America
is concerned and helps to show what a
diverse country America has become. Famous
for its seafood, its wildlife, and its
climate, Louisiana is the setting of many
a murder mystery. Louisiana is known to
be a very haunted and creepy place, with
lots of whispers of things like ghosts
and voodoo. This is of course played up
for the tourists, and underneath it all
Louisiana is an excellent place to visit
and a wonderful place to stay.
Louisiana was one of the first places
in America to be discovered by the Europeans.
While some parts of the west coast weren’t
settled until the 1800s, Louisiana was
discovered in 1528 by a Spanish expedition.
People started breaking ground in 1700,
and it wasn’t officially part of
the Union until after its purchase in
1803. This means that there is a lot of
history in Louisiana, and a lot of things
to see and do.

9Louisiana
is of course the home of New Orleans,
one of the most infamous cities in the
country. While the end of the 20th saw
New Orleans in the grip of vice and corruption
the state did not loose its charm. People
from all over the world come to see the
swamps, going for tours of places like
New Orleans’s French Quarter.
