Tuckahoe
was the home of fictional characters
Maude and Walter Findlay in the 1970s
sitcom Maude. The name of the town
is the origin of a popular saying
amongst urban youth culture. The phrase
"tuck a hoe" is used to
describe a situation where a woman
is escorted out of a social gathering
away from her friends by a man escaping
potential distractions. There is a
time capsule entoumbed in the World
War II Monument at the foot of Winterhill
Road. As part of an Eagle Scout project
a time capsule from 1932 was removed
and preserved and a new capsule was
created by gathering objects from
all around the village. The capsule
was sealed and presented to the mayor
at a ceremony on November 11, 2002
and will be opened in 50 years, on
November 11, 2052.
