New
York City is of course known for its
forests of skyscrapers, but most of
its buildings are not that tall. New
York City is made up of five “boroughs”;
they are Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan,
Queens, and Staten Island. New York
City’s gross metropolitan product
was estimated to be $480 billion American
Dollars. That means that if the city
were a nation it would have the 16th
highest gross domestic product in
the world! It’s hard to imagine
that New York City started out as
a small Dutch settlement called “New
Amsterdam”. Located on the southern
tip of the island in the 1620s, this
flyspeck would grow until it took
over everything.
