In
the Province of Ontario, right beside
Canada’s largest city, is a smaller
city named Mississauga. Experiencing rapid
growth, Mississauga was folded into the
city of Toronto for various political
reasons. Before it became part of the
Toronto “Mega City” Mississauga
was its own entity, and in 1985 the city
decided to construct a unique City Hall.
This building would have to be modern,
attractive, yet have a provocative style
that could easily be remembered. The city
asked a company named Jones and Kirkland
Architects to make an impressive edifice
that the city’s residents would
be proud to call their own.
Mississauga
City Hall is located next to a major mall,
and is located near the heart of the local
commerce district. The area surrounding
the building were made to be as attractive
as possible, to invite people to stay
and enjoy the day while doing what they
cam to do. The building was constructed
in two major parts, with large courtyards
to add a light but impressive feel to
the building. There is a large reflecting
pool surrounded by trees, which in turn
complemented the large wedge like structure
that forms the backdrop of the building.
A large rectangular tower rises in the
background, and this speaks of the city’s
economic prowess.
