Paris
is a city filled with famous landmarks;
what was needed was one road to connect
them all together. Once nothing but fields,
in the year 1616 Marie de Medicis decided
to put up a long tree-lined pathway. Since
then the city has grown and grown until
it was swallowed whole by the city of
Paris. It was extended several times as
more important buildings were constructed.
Today, the Champs Elysées is one
of the most famous streets in the world,
with its cinemas, cafés, and luxury
specialty shops. This special status made
it the site of much growth and activity.
At the very heart of Paris, it is one
of the most symbolic places in the city,
representative of its spirit and glory.
Also
during the year there are many street
festivals, and it is a good bet that if
you go to this street of streets there
will be something to see. The street (as
with many European cities) is giving more
and more space over to foot traffic to
accommodate the increasing numbers of
people who journey to this world-class
tourist attraction.
