One of the places people want to see when
they go to Los Angeles is Beverly Hills;
originally a small city, it was originally
a place to buy a house if you were very
wealthy. Those who moved to Beverly Hills
wanted a perfectly manicured place where
they could hide away from the hustle and
bustle of the city of Los Angeles to the
south. Over time thought the city would
first grow up to, and then around Beverly
Hills.
While it is technically a seamless whole
with the rest of the city around it, it
is VERY easy to tell where Beverly Hills
begins and ends. The area is just as wealthy
as in its youth and it is instantly recognizable
as a place where very, very wealthy people
live. In fact every square acre of city
(that isn’t a highly manicured park)
is used up, so if you want to buy a house
here someone else has to sell theirs…
at a cost. With the prices of houses running
well over several million dollars is sure
to keep its disposition for a long time
to come.
Another
“landmark” in Beverly Hills
is a place called Rodeo Drive. Famous
the world over as a place of the extremely
rich, every store looks like a museum
and every price tag has a string of zeros.
If you wander down Rodeo Drive it is common
for it to be crammed with cars the average
person only reads about in magazines;
they cram the street dropping off credit
card waving shoppers to be ushered to
private consultations with the wardrobe-consultant.
Robin Leech didn’t lie about this
place when he belted out season after
season of “Lifestyles of The Rich
and Famous”. Private security guards
are everywhere and every store has a designer
label… and why not? If you can afford
to pay $5000 American for a purse then
you might as well have a good label.
