Located on the Los Vegas Strip, just beside
The Excaliber, is the “big pink
hotel”. It has earned that name
because of the pink lights used to illuminate
a vast set of letters stretching all the
way up the side of the hotel, spelling
out the world TROPICANA. Obviously the
casino has excellent service and provides
all of the usual games of change that
one would expect. The Tropicana is also
one of the last holdovers from the last
“age of Vegas”: at the Tropicana
you can see shows like the Folies Bergere.
The Tropicana web site says it best: “When
you think “Las Vegas show,”
you immediately picture the glamorous
“Folies Bergere.” The timeless
musical extravaganza embodies the very
essence of sexy, classic Las Vegas entertainment.
“Folies” has everything a
great Las Vegas show should have - fabulous
singing & dancing, gorgeous showgirls
in barely-there costumes, dazzling scenery,
hilarious comedy and sheer spectacle!”
Of
course there’s more than the Folies
Bergere; there are magic shows, flying
aerial acts, contortionists, a comedy
show, and a bird show with imported birds
of paradise. You would almost expect Robert
De Niro to walk in playing Sam Rothstine
asking “why do I hire so many juiced
in cowboy yokels?”
In the Casino Legends exhibit you can
see a lot of collected memorabilia from
the by-gone days of the various classic
“stages of evolution” of Vegas.
Exhibits range from people like Frank
Sinatra and the Rat Pack to people like
eccentric multi-millionaire Howard Hughes.
A must see for anyone who wants to chart
the growth of a city known all over the
world as “America’s Playground”.
