Named
after the coast shared between France
and Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea, (or the
Italian Adriatic coast i.e. the "Riviera
Adriatica” on the Adriatic Sea),
the Las Vegas Riviera hotel and casino
has basically everything you would expect
out of a gaming center in the self proclaimed
“entertainment capital of the world”.
Possessing no detectable “theme”
this casino is down to earth and down
to business. The casino features acts
like “Splash”, which contains
“high-energy dancing and state-of-the-art
special effects. Gorgeous showgirls in
glamorous costumes, world-class ice skaters,
motorcycle daredevils, and the hottest
specialty acts.” The Riviera also
displays a sort of charm that isusually
left to either Fremont Street downtown
or Branson, Missouri on acid.
In
fact the Riviera’s entertainment
bill has everything a budding gambler
would need for keeping himself occupied.
There’s a huge show called “La
Cage” with all sorts of impersonators
belting out the classics of the last 30
years worth of pop-rock or cheese-rock.
There’s hypnotists and magicians
and stage singers. There’s a buffet
and another buffet located right beside
an excellent buffet [gasp]. Did I mention
a buffet? Oh, and a stake house. What
does the web site say? Check it out: “The
Riviera Hotel and Casino enjoys a legendary
past as one of the first top-notch Las
Vegas hotels in the State of Nevada, known
for its big name entertainment and friendly
hospitality, as well as its worldwide
name recognition. Preparing for its Golden
Anniversary in 2005, the historic Riviera
is one of the State's premier destination
spots offering the passion and excitement
of nostalgic Las Vegas and the Rat Pack
Era”
Also worth a honourable mention is their
sign. Many of the old casinos have preserved
the excellent neon that once graced the
Strip, and the Riviera is no slouch. It
adds it’s own unique piece of splayed
light to the ever-growing forest that
is “America’s Playground”.
