When
MGM decided to call their casino “The
Grand” they weren’t kidding.
The MGM Grand is the largest casino in
the world! With four themed gaming areas
(Hollywood, Emerald City, Monte Carlo,
and Sports, each with distinctive decor),
the casino spans 171,500 square feet (over
50,000 more than the next-largest Vegas
casino).
It is so large that apparently it took
39 armoured cars two days to bring in
enough money to stock the casino!
There’s a lot to see and do in this
building. The MGM Grand has multiple showrooms
and a 33-acre theme park. Some of the
other attractions include the largest
bronze statue in the western hemisphere
(a giant lion out front… impossible
to miss), a indoor lion habitat (MGM is
the company with the lion at the beginning
of all of their movies) that guests can
walk thought, as well as pools, spas,
nightclubs, lounges, restaurants, buffets,
and of course… games.
One
pamphlet said that the MGM Grand has 3700
slot and video poker machines, 76 blackjack
and 15 craps tables, and 17 roulette wheels!
All these things are housed under soaring
vistas and neo-futurist architecture.
Outside the casino is just as impressive.
Its multi-levelled design maximises exposed
balcony space as well as giving the casino
a soaring feeling… in glowing green.
Located right across from the New York,
New York it is bathed in green light at
night, with a brilliant display of lights
that dominates the corner it shares with
four other buildings.
