It
can easily be said that Las Vegas is “hard
to miss”. When flying over the city
in a plane at night the city shines like
a beacon out of the blackness. If all
of this is true then much of this can
be attributed to one hotel… The
Luxor.
To find the Luxor is easy. During the
day it looks like a huge black pyramid
(a “to-scale” model of the
real thing in Egypt) that is made out
of black reflective material (some parts
glass, some not). Large cartoon-like replicas
of famous Egyptian landmarks such as the
Sphinx surround the Luxor, as well as
a monorail and other huge casinos. Is
it gaudy, eye popping, and defiantly worth
seeing at least once. The spectacle is
heightened if you get a good look up “The
Strip” so that you can get The Luxor,
The Excalibur, and The MGM Grand all in
one view.
At night the Luxor is even easier to find.
On top of the hotel is a powerful spotlight
that shines directly into the night sky.
The rest of the grounds are flooded with
light as well, making the entire place
look like some kind of massive Halloween
party or costume ball.
The
inside of the casino is no different,
and is considered to be its most elegant
feature. While the real pyramids are filled
in, the Luxor is hollow and has a most
fascinating architectural design. Soaring
walls, balconies, and “Egyptianish”
carvings are quite unlike anything else
on the North American continent; in fact
the Luxor contains the largest indoor
atrium in the world! All of this is richly
decorated (some would say over decorated)
in the typical iconic-kitchy-pop-Egyptian
style.
As usual the Luxor is filled with all
the amenities that a Las Vegas hotel offers;
the hotel has a spa, a nightclub, an arcade,
restaurants, a theatre, shopping, a museum,
and of course a gaming floor that stretches
as far as the eye can see. If you’ve
ever wanted to hang out in a place that
looks like a giant King Tut cartoon then
the Luxor is for you!
