Right
beside The Luxor (the huge black pyramid)
and just across the street from The Tropicana
(The “Big Pink Hotel”) is
a big white hotel that is very hard to
miss. Designed to look like a medieval
castle, The Excalibur Hotel and Casino
is a sprawling and very well lit entertainment
complex that contrasts with the brooding
shape of The Luxor next door. If you’re
having trouble picking it out just look
for the big white building with the red
and blue pointy roves and your probably
in the right place.
Located on the southern end of the famous
Las Vegas Strip, The Excalibur isn’t
for everyone. That’s not to say
that its standards are not a high as everyone
else’s… the food is just as
good, and the service is nothing to sneeze
at, but there is something about the style
of The Excalibur that takes a serious
tourist to enjoy.
Inside The Excalibur you’ll find
walls, hallways, bathrooms, and just about
everything you can possibly imagine in
the gaudy over the top cartoon-like medieval
style. Everything is named in that psudo-ye-old-English;
a bathroom isn’t a bathroom, it’s
ye-old-bathroom or perhaps even a “ye-privy”.
Think of playing blackjack in a well heated
and over lit renaissance fair.
Giving
the same theme to all of the traditional
casino activities backs all of this up;
the “all you can eat” buffet
is called “The Round Table”
and the lounge (normally called things
like Steam and Sin) is called “The
Minstrels Lounge”. Instead of watching
classic Vegas show girls in huge costumes
you can watch knights on horseback smash
into each other in replica jousts, or
watch a show that involved dragons and
wizards.
So, if you’re a huge fan of Dungeons
& Dragons or you just love to play
craps with a guy dressed in a weird hat
with bells, you should defiantly swing
on down to The Excalibur for a gaming
experience that will rival anything else
in Las Vegas… just don’t bring
a real sword or they will have you arrested.
