Mimico
and the other lakeshore communities
west of the Humber River were eventually
linked by an independent streetcar
line, which was intended to link with
a line from Hamilton. However, the
eastern end was never completed past
Port Credit, and the local line merged
with the TTC in the 1930s. In 1953
Mimico became one of thirteen cities
and towns in the new Metropolitan
Toronto. In 1967, the Town of Mimico
merged with two other lakeshore communities
(New Toronto and Long Branch) and
the Township of Etobicoke to form
the Borough of Etobicoke, later the
City of Etobicoke. The City, in turn,
merged (1998) with Metro Toronto's
five other municipalities into the
new City of Toronto.
