Kingston
Railroad Station was built on its current
site in 1875. It is built in the Victorian
style, and such a wood frame construction
was typical of rural rail depots of that
period. Most people are unaware of the
fact that the originial Kingston Railroad
Station was once located about one quarter
mile to the north. The current Kingston
Railroad Station was established to make
passenger traffic easer, which is mainly
to the east and south. Apparently it was
necessary to have much more yard space
available for the emerging Narragansett
Railroad line at that time, back in 1875.
Kingston Station has been in continuous
use as a Passenger Depot. In 1974, after
witnessing the structure fall into dispair
for several years, a concerned citizens
group organized in the community to find
a way to refurbish the Station.
