Delhi
(pronounced Del-HI) is a small town in
Norfolk County, Ontario, near Lake Erie.
According to the Canada 2001 Census, the
population of the former Township of Delhi
was 16,365, although the actual town is
smaller. Delhi is famous for the surrounding
tobacco fields, and is known as the tobacco
Capital of Ontario. For such a small town,
Delhi is known as a reasonably multicultural
place. There are Belgian, German, Polish
and Hungarian halls, as well as several
other ethnic communities, including Dutch,
Portuguese, Greeks, Ukrainians, Lithuanians,
and British.
