Mackenzie’s
Point is a series of 225-million-year-old
sandstone cliffs located at one end of
a wide 1 km long strip of golden sand
arched around Bondi Bay, called Bondi
Beach. It is opposite Ben Buckler to the
north, and provides excellent views over
both Bondi and other beaches to the south.
It is an excellent place to jog, power
walk, or exercise, and many people from
the surrounding environs come to get some
fresh sea air. Mackenzie's Point is also
home to some ancient aboriginal rock carvings;
they appear fairly fresh, because the
grooves have been re-cut by the Waverly
Council. The engraving shows a large whale
and a small fish, which is about seven
meters long. Many people come to see these
carvings, and as usual there is a controversy
about that to do with them, how to maintain
them, and how much respect to give the
carvings.
