The
United States of America (known to citizens
as simply America and non-citizens as
“The U.S.” or “The States”)
is a fascinating country. Before the arrival
of Europeans it was a titanic mix of tribal
societies that stretched from the Atlantic
to the Pacific. While Europe had been
burnt out for thousands of years North
America remained unspoiled and verdant.
Discovered by the French, the English,
and the Spanish, North America was divided
up by a hoard of land hungry, bloodthirsty
zealots who would do nothing short of
genocide to get their piece of the pie.
After a few hundred years had passed and
most of the original inhabitants were
subjugated, marginalized, exterminated,
or converted, the area that would become
the United States of America was divided
up into semi-independent states. These
states were meant to be semi-autonomous
due to the fact that “America”
was so big it was nearly unmanageable.
As the number of states grew and the western
frontiers disappeared a succession of
bloody battles freed America from Britain’s
rule.
The
states were united into one union (hence
the name) and in typical European fashion
the country divided into two teams and
promptly set to killing each other. This
was a serious fight with the south fighting
the north, and when the battle was over
America promptly named itself the creator
of freedom.
As the 20th Century dawned America was
growing quickly but had a bit of an inferiority
complex. It envied the old European powers
but didn’t have the cash to emulate
them. On top of that every place worth
enslaving had had already been enslaved.
Wars passed and nothing much changed,
until the U.S.A got its ass handed to
it at Pearl Harbour. It became so fixed
on destroying its enemy that by the time
the blood stopped flowing the U.S. of
A. was a superpower. It had everything
needed to rule the world… including
nuclear weapons, an excellent enemy to
hate, a virus-like culture, and a need
to consume itself stupid.
