Locked
between the two most populous countries
in the world, China and India, is a country
that the modern world has come to know
as Tibet. This highly mountainous country
in known as “the roof of the world”
and is fairly barren in comparison to
some of its neighbours. It is hard to
describe Tibet without mentioning the
Buddhist religion or the Dahl Lama. It
is also to discuss Tibet without mentioning
the Chinese invasion and massacres. There
currently exists a “Tibetan Government
in Exile”, which has captured the
attention of the world media because of
how it was treated by the Chinese.
Tibet is an ancient country, with traditions
that stretch back hundreds of years. Not
much is known about Tibet’s ancient
peoples due to a lack of records, but
it is known that Buddhism was brought
to Tibet my missionaries from what became
modern India.

What
time has not erased has fallen to the
picks of China, and many of Tibet’s
historic monuments and temples have been
erased. While there was a time long ago
when Tibet was strong those days are long
gone.
Today’s Tibet, no matter what it
is called or who owns it, scrapes out
a living with “subsistence agriculture”.
Not many people from the western world
go to Tibet, but those who do usually
bring armed guards and a camera team.
Many areas remain restricted, wither because
of Chinese armed guards or hostile conditions.
