The
Kingdom of Thailand is located in South
East Asia sandwiched in between Laos,
Cambodia, Malaysia, and Myanmar. It is
a roughly “round” country
with a long thin strip of land on its
southern parts that touches the Gulf of
Thailand. It is a hot country with many
jungles, except for the north where the
climate is cooler due to the mountainous
terrain. The south of Thailand is known
for its monsoons.
The capital of Thailand is Bangkok, and
has developed a reputation as a serious
party town. Thailand is the home of a
type of Kickboxing that is famous the
world over. Many people think that “Thai
Food” comes from Taiwan, but it
comes from Thailand. Because of its ecological
diversity there are some national parks
in Thailand that protect the countries
dwindling natural habitats.

Europeans
once called Thailand “Siam”,
just as Asia was once called “The
Orient”. Thailand once played a
dangerous political game with the major
ruling powers of Europe, with the Imperialists
of the west dividing up Asia amongst them.
Thailand wished to remain free of outside
influence, and its kings made many a Machiavellian
move to keep the balance of power and
ambition in check. Because Thailand never
became a “colony” of a western
power Thailand’s kings have been
viewed by history as some of the most
talented diplomats of all time.
