Many
people in North America think that Scotland
is an old word for England, but it’s
not true. The Scottish people are a very
proud breed, and they have a distinct
and powerful history. Scotland is located
on the northern part of the island of
Great Britain. It is a damp and hill covered
country, which has been known to produce
a powerful liquor called Scotch. Most
Scottish people who live in Scotland live
in the middle of Scotland, which contains
cities like Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stirling.
People there sometimes ware a tradition
type of material called “Tartan”,
which could link a person back to one
of the original founding clans of the
country.
One of the unique pieces of costume that
is worn by someone from Scotland is a
piece of clothing called a “Kilt”.
Many an unwary traveler has asked a large
Scottish man why he is wearing what looks
like a dress, and that person usually
discovers that he should have paid more
attention to his travel guide.

Men
normally wear kilts and they are sometimes
ways of displaying a clan’s tartan.
A Kilt is a proud symbol of Scotland’s
culture, and while many people still favour
pants (many claim Kilts are drafty) the
come out at occasions like weddings, rock
concerts, and drinking contests.
Scotland was taken over by England after
some very bloody wars. For a long time
the Scottish traditions were illegal,
but as time passed and cooler heads prevailed
the laws were repealed. As the modern
age came into being and Scotland entered
the Industrial Revolution with the rest
of the United Kingdom it became the home
of many a smart business head and a technological
innovator. Today Scotland is a beautiful
country, with many a friendly resident
and an excellent and inviting pub.
