India
is a fascinating country with thousands
of years of history. Claming to have the
world’s second largest population
(just over one billion people, just behind
China’s 1.2 Billion), India is teeming
with people. To say that India has its
own distinct culture is misleading, because
there are so many people and so much history
that India as several cultures and people
that it calls its own. It is quickly emerging
as a world power and if it continues to
grow India is expected to out pace many
smaller countries, at least in terms of
consumption and trade.
India is the birthplace and home of many
of the world’s faiths. Buddhism,
Jainism, and especially Hinduism all have
very deep roots in India. The first known
settlements in India appeared around 9000
BCE, which is a very long time ago as
far as civilization is concerned! The
first recognized and permanent civilization
appeared around 2600 BCE, which is also
a very significant milestone. Since that
time many changes, wars, cities, cultures,
and organizations have appeared and disappeared
inside India’s borders, so trying
to sum it all up in one small space is
next to impossible.
India
is a very hot country in general, but
because India is such a large country
(ranked 7th in all the world) has a diverse
set of climates within its borders. India’s
main language is Hindi, followed but English;
this is due to India being a British Colony.
Besides these two languages India has
another 21 national languages! This can
make filming a movie in India very challenging,
but some how everyone seems to be managing.
In fact India has a very successful and
highly developed film industry, with some
local movie stars being able to speak
over five separate languages.
