The
paragon of the very concept of antiquity,
Egypt is famous for its Pyramids. Virtually
chocked full of monuments that stretch
back thousands of years, Egypt is a paradise
for people who like to add a little adventure
to their holiday. Centered around a river
called The Nile River, Egypt was ancient
long before the Roman Empire was a series
of fishing villages, and was going strong
long before Ancient Greece built monuments
like the Acropolis.
Egypt is a very and hot dry place, dominated
by desserts. Under its shifting sands
lay the monuments of ages, and to this
very day the dunes give up secrets that
can be so old they change world history.
The first vestiges of what we know as
“Ancient Egypt” started around
3000 BCE. That’s about 500 years
before China started to do business; of
course the Egyptians got interrupted where
the Chinese did, with China holding the
title of “oldest continuous civilization”.

Today’s
Egypt is devoutly Islamic. They have been
ruled for over 2,300 years by invaders,
including the Persians, the Greeks, the
Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs, the
Turks, and the British. Only after the
British Empire fell apart did they gain
their independence, and since then they
have been in hot water with their devoutly
Jewish neighbour Israel. This does not
change the fact that in parts of Egypt
life is much like it was thousands of
years ago. The tourists love this, but
Egyptian opinion on this is mixed.
