Pittsburgh
is located in Pennsylvania, and is known
for its river, its bridges, and its industry.
Pittsburgh was at first the site of an
English garrison in the 1700s, and then
later became a fort surrounded by a settlement.
During the War of Independence Pittsburgh
was the center of something called the
Whiskey Rebellion. This was ended by the
army, who were under the direct control
of none other than George Washington.
It was discovered that near Pittsburgh
there were huge coal deposits and this
made it a logical place to start a steel
industry. This brought a lot of money
into Pittsburgh, and it was the money
that brought the people. Pittsburgh began
to grow until it was one of the country’s
largest cities.
Pittsburgh is located at the center of
a bunch of river valleys. Buildings were
built on these steep valleys, making many
of the roads in the city very steep. This
incline can be compared to places like
San Francisco. As the city continued to
grow and the economy began to change the
steel industry shrank. The city had to
adapt, and is now subsequently home to
many of the east’s technology companies.
