Philadelphia
is the largest city in Pennsylvania and
the fifth-largest city in the United States.
It is one of the oldest cities in the
United States and started its life as
a settlement belonging to the Delaware
tribe. The first Europeans to hit the
area were apparently Swedish, although
a colony wasn’t officially founded
until much later. Philadelphia was a planned
colony, and it grew to such a size that
it rivalled London in population. Philadelphia’s
streets were laid out in a strict grid
patter to make sure that everything was
equal and straight. This was done to destroy
the usual state of affairs in cities of
the time, which was a ramshackle winding
set of streets that did whatever they
liked. It is also thought that this street
gird was constructed to give easier access
to the Delaware River.

Philadelphia
has lots of interesting sights, including
the City Hall, which is the tallest Masonry
Building in the world. There is also a
historic Masonic Temple located only a
few blocks from the City Hall. It is a
legacy of the American Founding Fathers
that many if the signers of the Declaration
of Independence were Freemasons. Philadelphia
was one of the first places to build steam
engines and railroads. It subsequently
became known for it cream cheese and its
cheese steak sandwiches.
