Cincinnati
is a large city located in the State of
Ohio. Quickly approaching the 350 thousand
mark as far as population goes, Cincinnati
is an industrial and hard working town
containing many of the important industries
that keep Ohio going. First founded in
1788 on what was originally an old military
fort, Cincinnati has grown to immense
proportions. Strangely enough the city
was not named after a Native American
word meaning “on the river”,
but was in fact named after a Roman general
Cincinnatus. Cincinnatus was a lot like
General George Washington, and the people
of Cincinnati thought it would be a tribute
to Mr. Washington’s deeds.

Being
in Ohio, perhaps it is no surprise to
know that Cincinnati is located on the
Ohio River. The river served the city
in its early days as a way to get supplies
in and out of the city. Like most cities
of the day, the Ohio River became the
cities lifeline to the more colonized
east. In fact the Ohio River was crucial
to the growth of America as a whole, and
much of this traffic brought life to Cincinnati,
many settlers staying rather than face
the unknown expanses of the west.
